HELEN MARX, TREASURER

Helen is Assistant Professor of Teaching and Learning at Eastern Connecticut State University. Her scholarly interests include the study of intercultural development within international experiences, with a focus on teacher education study abroad programs. Helen is a 2008 graduate of the Neag School of Education, University of Connecticut. She received her Ph.D in curriculum and instruction. Her dissertation, “Please Mind the Gap: A Pre-Service Teacher’s Intercultural Development During a Study Abroad Program,” used a constructivist model of intercultural development as a framework to study student learning during study abroad programs. Her M.Ed., from Teachers College at Columbia University, focused on curriculum theory and educational reform. She had the honor of working as a research assistant at the National Center for Restructuring Education, Schools, and Teaching. Helen also has an M.A. in educational communication and technology from NYU and has worked with Bank Street School of Education’s Center for Technology and Education. In her spare time Helen plays percussion in a number of Balkan-influenced bands.
