An Update on NERA 2020 and Call for Proposals

When we last communicated in April, we said we were hoping for an in-person NERA 2020. We have, however, since decided that budgets, liability concerns, travel comfort, and precedents set by other 2020 conferences all point us to a virtual option for NERA this year. We look forward to hosting an engaging virtual experience for this year’s NERA and look forward to your participation.

We anticipate a pared-down program taking place over two days during the dates of October 14-16th. We have several invited speakers, workshops, and panels already confirmed. The speaker list may be found here, and we will continue to update that page as we identify new speakers. In addition to our invited speakers, we will be accepting coordinated sessions from our members.

Given the novel structure of the 2020 conference, we are seeking to only accept a limited number of coordinated sessions. A session submission is a fully planned session, involving multiple presentations or participants and a moderator. We welcome session submissions from new and experienced researchers and will consider all session formats (e.g., workshops, symposia, roundtables). Session submissions meeting one or more of the following criteria below will be prioritized:

  1. The session submission contains issues related to the conference theme.
  2. The session submission contains issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  3. The session submission is of exceptional and outstanding quality.

“Say it Loud, Say it Clear: Communicating Results and Driving Change”

The theme of the 2020 NERA conference is, “Say it Loud, Say it Clear: Communicating Results and Driving Change,” which focuses on the importance of effective communication in educational settings. Quality research is often our focus, but without considering effective ways to develop, communicate, and disseminate our findings, we may miss an opportunity to drive important decisions in education. It is thus critical for researchers to summarize and communicate results in meaningful ways to better inform such decisions and to reach a broad audience.
Session Requirements
Each session submission should include the following information:
  • Complete Information for Author(s) including affiliation(s).
  • 15 words or fewer for session title.
  • 120 words or fewer session abstract for the conference program.
  • 500 words or fewer overall session summary addressing the following session elements:
    1. Objectives of the session
    2. Overview of the session
    3. Structure of the session
    4. Scholarly or scientific significance of the session
  • 250 words or less summary of how the session aligns with one or more of the three criteria listed above.
